Researchers in a population study, Long Island Breast Cancer Project , observed an increased breast cancer risk among post - menopausal women with high lifetime intake of smoked , barbecued , and grilled meat.
The study supports previous scientific studies that shows consumption of meats particularly cooked in high temperature that promote carcinogen formation was associated with cancer. Previous research showed well- done meat cooked at high temperature contains the carcinogens polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons ( PAHs ) and heterocyclic amines ( HCAs ).
